Spanish Week 2014 Photography Competition and Exhibition
Celebrating Spanish Week, the Embassy of Spain in cooperation with Drik called for a photography competition on the theme INSPIRATION. Photo submission was from 27 August – 20 September 2014, 23.59 hrs. As anticipated, we received enormous positive response from photo enthusiasts of all age. It was a close call. Out of 4000+ submitted photographs, judges have found 57 inspirational moments to celebrate the Spanish Week in style.
An exhibition with selected photographs from the competition started at Drik Gallery with an inauguration ceremony on 16 October, 2014. The inauguration ceremony included prize giving to the winning photographers and a photo-book launch. Luis Tejada, Ambassador of Spain, Shahidul Alam, Managing Director of Drik, other distinguished guests and artists were present during the inauguration.
First prize was won by Ashis Das for his photograph “Friendship Forever” which depicted friendship between two old women. The second prize was won by Kumar Bishwajit for his photograph titled “The light within” that shows underprivileged children trying to study at a night school without electricity in torch light. The 3rd prize went to “Turtles can fly” which was photographed by Kaisar Ahamed, where he captured a unique moment of a group of boys in a muddy field, filled up with rain water playing soccer with immense enthusiasm and joy.
Awards of the competition:
1st Prize: Canon EOS 60D with 18 135mm lens
2nd Prize: Canon EOS 1200D with 18-55mm lens
3rd Prize: Canon PS S110
The show stayed up till 22 October 2014. Our sincerest gratitude to all the participants who made this show a huge success.
