The name Pathshala comes from the ancient education system that prevailed in South Asia. The South Asian Institute of Photography not only allows students to explore the world of image making but gives them the knowledge and opportunities to question beyond the confines of discipline, and the scope to think outside the box.
Taking advantage of a World Press Photo seminar on 18th December 1998, the school was setup. Today the facility consists of two departments, Photography and Broadcast and Multi Media with supporting classrooms, library, dark room, studio and computer lab with internet.
