Renowned speaker, and addiction expert, Mate is the author of many books including the best-selling The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts (2008), and more recent, The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture (2022). 

Mate has openly critiqued the foundation of Israel (“founded on massacres and the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands”). He recently said in a TV talk show that the “historical context surrounding the events of 7 October must be acknowledged to understand the current conflict and move forward.”
